olive grove

Integrated and Sustainable Production

The olive grove was born in 2006, with the planting of 7000 trees of four different varieties: Cobrançosa (Portuguese variety), Frantoio (Italian variety), Koroneiki (Greek variety) and Arbequina (Spanish variety).

The varieties were chosen with the aim of producing an excellent quality nectar with a unique tasting profile.
Living where the olives grow makes it possible to have greater control over the maintenance of the olive grove, thus enhancing the quality of the oil.

Herdade da Bica is part of the Integrated Production Mode, since all the products used are duly certified and comply with all safety standards.

In-depth knowledge of the soil, daily monitoring, particularly with regard to irrigation, and the ability to determine the ideal time to harvest are all part of our attentive approach to agriculture.

All the olives used to produce Herdade da Bica Extra Virgin Olive Oil are in our olive grove, allowing us to assess their ripeness on a daily basis.
Determining the right time to harvest is essential for producing quality extra virgin olive oil. This ideal time depends not only on the weather conditions, but also on the variety of olive to be harvested.
Each variety is picked and milled separately in our mill within a few hours of being harvested.
